On 30 October 2026, OpenAI announced two safety updates.

Community Safety Report: OpenAI will publish a report on violence prevention, community safety issues, and safeguard effectiveness. The first report is planned for early 2027 covering H2 2026, then every six months. OpenAI says it made over 200 law-enforcement referrals in Q3 2026.

Stronger boundaries: For all users, ChatGPT will give less detail on past mass attacks (weapons, how they were obtained, harm-scale comparisons). When recent chats show warning signs of possible violence, responses become more conservative; stricter limits also apply when the system predicts a user is under 18. ChatGPT for Teens further restricts practical weapons and security-system information that could be misused. Rollout begins in the coming weeks.
